So how's it going?  Sheltering at home.  Wearing a bright yellow mask when I make that ONE trip out, and some days not.  Watching amazon prime movies. Cleaning out closets and going through and taking bags to the Goodwill and waiting to take the good stuff to the battered women's shelter.  Now, going through my beloved books and thousands of photos. Daily listening to: "Daily Devotion with each of the priests"  and then the Sunday service and finally one lesson I look forward to and love of my life:  CS Lewis Class with Father Brian McGreevy.

I have started walking.  I cook at home.  I have I think probably lost some weight.  GO figure, and all good, sort of.  My cooking is ok, and I can measure my amounts, and how surprised I was to see that I had been eating way to much.  I found I love garlic salt, and artichoke sauce on anything and cranberry relish on dry chicken.  Thank you Publix!

One of the many lessons from the writings from CS Lewis is for each of us to  enjoy God's wonder, nature.  Having just completed about 3 months of  study on Whales and Oceans with Ocean Alliance and students from a local school,  and viewing 4K footage from Christian Miller, and their Snotbot drone, I realized that I had been purely living in God's wonder, and on a sabbatical from the daily stresses. The grace and beauty of the whales swimming, and playing in the oceans, and almost waving at us - as they drove in and came up and out.   Their tales up!

The work of the Marine Scientists at Ocean Alliance opened their drop box filled with 4K footage of their world wide travels, and then their whale songs, that were discovered over 48 years ago by their founder, Dr. Roger Payne.  They went on a expedition to Sea of Cortez, and we were able to follow along, and even ask a few questions, and watch as they collected the "blow" from the Blue Whale for their research.  So they are learning now all about the health of the whale, the DNA, hormone levels, and pregnancy if present.

Before me under glass was the George Chicken Diary of 1715.  Normally this type of a rare find is kept in archival storage but for this special event:  Diaries & Drinks, several rooms had on display many historic diaries. The writing all cursive, and the prose when I could read, sounded "old English". Just like my Grandmother Mamie would have written, always so formal. Eliza Lucas Pinckney(1739-1762)  her letters now found in a book is shown here standing next to Cassique of the Kiawah's in an interactive exhibit.  Eliza is given credit for the development of "blue or indigo" and a manager of several plantations for her family.  Her letters are most interesting and tell the story of her life and those around her.   This book is our "Pay it forward" - an inspiration for teachers and parents and those who work with children/kids in the afterschool or camps.  We provide lesson plans and templates of easy use and reproduction. The first half of the book, we share how we served military kids all around the United States and then came home to Charleston, and had the help of Mayor Joe Riley to integrate into the Charleston Promise Neighborhood. The White Shirt

  A White Shirt The Charleston wind blew through my porch the day that Stan Foxworthy came to take a photograph of me for the book.  First and foremost, I do not like to sit still for a period of time, and for a photograph.  I would have loved to have had kids with me, or reading, or anything but sitting still and smiling. The white shirt.   That morning Stan called and said “see you shortly”.  I had on a white shirt, and standing by, my black turtleneck and a bright pink jacket.  Stan, a master of light, took one look at my porch area, felt the wind blowing through and said – “perfect!”.  “Sit he said”.  And forgetting that I had on this white shirt, well, we started.
