May 4, 2020

So May Day, has passed.  My plan was to blog about my growing up in Columbia, SC and the May Day Celebration at Valley Park, in Five Points.  It was called the May Pole and the park was filled with poles and bright colors of crepe paper and lots of "little and big girls" dancing and weaving around the poles.  Quite a site to see.  May 1 my fingers and keyboard were not working quite so well on that day.

Why my tennis shoes here?  My excuse for not blogging on that day, is because I had been moving.  Yep, in this time of COVID 19,  my lease came to a close, and I needed to relocate due to "mold" and other "air" coming out of the AC unit.  Even with the filters put on the AC unit, still the "Dust" was most colorful, and can you imagine when the cleaners and I did the 'deep clean" we found a colony of maggot eggs (from part of a dead rat's carcass left in the attic left in attic by maintenance). Not a very healthy environment, and the condo really had been a great space, but "bad air", and poor maintenance. Good news is that it was the end of the lease, so all legal and proper, with the landlord having one month's rent as a security deposit.

During my move, it became clear that STEPS are involved.  So I started counting.  I do not have one of those electronic wrists, but I used my smartphone to help me keep track, from 8 am to 9 pm.  Multiple unloads, and car trips, along with a mover of two men.  A great friend came to help, and then the wife of the mover came over.  Still the steps up and down, from the parked car.

Imagine this.  Upstairs - 20 steps.  From parking space to bottom of steps - 30.  Down and back 100 steps.  Multiply that times many.  So now is when I used my calculator and went on line to convert to miles.  60,000 in one day.  Next day another 25,000.  The next day 10,000.  I took off today.

So I walked about 20 miles, then 10 miles and finally, 4 miles.  Every muscle felt it too.  My best experience to date has been the long soak in the tub with Dr. Teal's.  If you have not treated yourself - and I am sharing this with all men and women,  DO SO.  The good Dr. Teal has a wide range of products from simple Epsom Salt soaks, to calming and soothing to help you sleep, and even with scents.

Next, my new porch and a cool Southern Night.  Screened in overlooking the pond, and in the distance the visiting ducks are talking to each other,  and as the sun does down, the tree frogs dropping to the ground.  The crickets were clapping in unison.  Made the steps walked all the more worth it.  Sounds of nature, blessings from God, in this time of COVID19.
